Egalitas Restaurant is the only place where disabled young people from Oradea, members of the Down syndrome Association and others prepare and serve meals. Today’s rapidly changing society pays little attention to the weak and vulnerable. Although it is said that this would be one of the strongest bonds that holds a community together. Therefore, any project that targets our fellow human beings living with disabilities, is for the benefit of our society as a whole.

The Egalitas Restaurant allows adults with special needs – people with disabilities – to be active participants in society.

The project is a seasonal restaurant run by the target group with the help of a head chef and a professional mentor. Meals are cooked and served together. This gives them the opportunity to learn about the work in hotel trade, its rules and beauty, and to be able to demonstrate through their professional training that they are capable of more than society expects of them.

In addition, the gastroprogramme is a rewarding experience, as the fruit of their activities can be grasped and tasted. The guests` feedback confirms this feeling as a positive one. At the same time, the family of the disabled young adults also benefits from this experience of success. As parents they are happy that their children have the opportunity to prove they can create values and thus they can get in touch with other people.

For those who are open to meeting the “hosts” of the project, people with disabilities will be able to see the faces and destinies behind the abstract concepts.
